How to Create a Hypnotic Video, Part II

Okay friends and friendsters… it’s time for another installment of:

HOW TO CREATE A HYPNOTIC VIDEO!

(if you missed the previous one, go here first)

I’m sure it’s all self-evident and all, but I’ll say it anyway: look at this sample video, observe what makes it so efficient and hypnotic, and then translate that to what you’re already doing in your business.

Oh wait, I’m going to do that FOR you. At least the observation part requiring heavy lifting. πŸ™‚

So here we go! First, press play on this magnificent video:

So what makes this video so darn hypnotic and cool?

Here’s a few pointers for you to think about (IF you can keep your eyes off the video – it’s pretty hard I know! πŸ™‚ ):

  • Powerful, impactful start with a pumping track from the first second (you need a powerful start to distract them from their habitual click-click-click-next pattern)
  • Show something new people haven’t seen before (they’ll keep watching just to see what’s coming next – the Howard Stern effect)
  • Use LOTS of variety even when riffing on the same theme (YOU may realize what the message is but people fresh to it often need several angles to ‘get it’)
  • If you can, include at least ONE ‘how in the heck do they do that’ moment – it doesn’t have to be a technological wonder as in this example but to do with your content (you want them curious so they’ll keep wanting more)
  • Take something familiar or what people think they know (the buildings, temples etc. in this case) – and completely turn it on its head (it will make them think you know something they don’t – which is probably true!)
  • Make it atmospheric! (people instinctually connect night time shots with something secret, important and worthwhile – and just plain pay more attention)

Again there’s even more to it, but take just these psychological principles and think of ways to apply them into your next video, whether you’re selling something or just want your viewers to pay attention.

This one actually could use a couple more tricks to get 100% of people to watch right till the end, but I think it’s plenty powerful as it is.

What do you think? Sound off in the comments below!

Cheers to NuFormer Digital Media for the outstanding video, you can watch it directly on Vimeo here.
